It is no accident that Samuel’s resume spans some of the most important theatre companies in the UK; Broadway; Award-winning TV shows on both sides of the Atlantic; and work on feature films with some of the world’s most celebrated directors.

Training at the prestigious Bristol Old Vic Theatre School and The University of Hull before that, he has followed in illustrious footsteps.

Classical training with an emphasis on deeply layered character creation, led to several years in theatre including lead roles at The Old Vic, The Royal Shakespeare Company, National Theatre, Curve, and Bristol Old Vic, and a whole host of supporting roles.

Samuel soon began working on screen. He made a name for himself, appearing in TV features and mini series. Housewife 49, Appropriate Adult and Richard II all winning BAFTA Awards. He made his feature film debut in Mike Leigh’s Oscar®-nominated Happy-Go-Lucky. Since then he has relished working with a string of the highest calibre feature directors in the industry including; Jane Campion, Patrick Marber, Sam Mendes, and David Yates, to name but a few.

After moving to the US, he quickly earned his first Broadway credit in Cyrano De Bergerac at The Roundabout before swiftly moving into TV where he became the fan-favorite character, Captain Simcoe on AMC’s TURN: Washington’s Spies. This began a steady stream of roles on major US television shows including Counterpart, Agents of Shield, The Librarians, The Magicians, Salem and feature film, Equity.
Samuel has voiced nearly 40 audiobooks and has twice been the recipient of the prestigious Earphones Award.

Throughout his career Samuel has been consistently writing. His work spans plays, screenplays and documentaries. In 2015 he directed his first short-film The Break. It premiered at Austin Film Festival and took home the Audience Award at Richmond International Film Festival. He followed this up with Demus, which is now being developed into a TV show.

Samuel also loves helping the next generation of actors and for many years has taken time to lead acting masterclasses, direct drama school productions and work with actors in a private coaching capacity.

In 2021, Samuel will feature in a recurring role on AMC’s first major animated series Pantheon, teaming up once more with Turn creator Craig Silverstein. He can currently be seen in feature, A Call To Spy.
